Twinkle, Twinkle Little Rock Star: Kimberlee's Fashion Friday Pick of The Week

I’m a rock star.

I totally get that you may not think so at first glance, because I am quite the master of disguise with my Les Paul guitar tucked inside my larger than life Melie Bianco fringe trimmed bag and my oh-so-phony “do not attempt that on American Idol” singing.  In fact, one of the few details that expose my true identity to my unsuspecting public can be found dangling 3” from my ears on rock star inspired chains hanging from uniquely designed sterling silver ear wires.
They are shamelessly indulgent with brilliant Swarovski sparkle scattering luster across the room with their jet black crystals.

Swimming in a sea of glorious accessories, it is easy to become pre-occupied with the limitless options. Never having been one for a repetitive look, this pair of earrings speaks so loudly to my personality that I have found them to be my first “signature” statement in jewelry.  The Rock Me earrings by Zahava Designs are sensationally hypnotic, and the simplicity of the design generates maximum rock star effect with minimal effort.  The ethereally lovely grains of starlight have quickly become my sanctuary.  They unique ear wires offer a touch of heavy metal rock & roll to every wardrobe selection, from a t-shirt and jeans to a date night affair.

The simplicity of the design evokes a sophisticated spirit, while the timeless twinkle of the Swarovski Crystal breeds alluring femininity.  I love them.  I love them so much that I purchased them in my favorite staple jet black, a stunning accentuating turquoise blue, and neutral golden amber to pair with my autumn browns and oranges.   At a mere $25 per pair, these have become the most coveted bargain in my collection of trophies from shopping trips gone by.

Zahava Designs has been creating timeless designs strung with stunning Swarovski Crystals, pearls, beads and fine metals for the past 7 years.  The collections that have come from their creativity capture elements from the simply stunning to the extremely extraordinary.  The colors and options that are available in each hand-crafted design are seemingly endless, when custom colors and variations are requested (via email zahava@tds.net).   Zahava Designs offers truly amazing pieces, and I have witnessed firsthand that the images on the website simply do not do justice to the captivating beauty of each piece.  It is rather difficult, I suppose, to capture the twinkle of a star in a photograph.

Alas, the reality is…I am not really a rock star, your instincts were right when you assumed my bad singing was 100% natural.  But in these amazing little gems, I absolutely feel like one.

Banish Dull Hair: Shampoo and Conditioner to Make Your Hair Shine

If dull hair has you down, I have a solution for you. I found a shampoo and conditioner combination that has made my hair noticeably shinier, incredibly soft and smooth. There are various ways to add shine to your hair one of which is to use a product that is formulated to make your hair shine. Others include having a gloss treatment applied or by weaving in low lights to add shine and depth. As I had mentioned in a recent article, blonde or light highlights are naturally matte compared to brunette color and can appear to be dull even when they aren't. I have been using the product for 6 months and it is worth the investment.

The brand is Kerastase Paris. It is from their reflection line formulated to remove buildup and smooth each follicle leaving your hair smooth and shiny.

Bain Miroir Shampoo (on right $34) and Conditioner (on left $28). L-O-V-E Love.

It has made a significant difference in my hair. The first time I used only the shampoo with a drug store conditioner. My hair was nice but heavy from the cheap conditioner. It also felt drier and got tangled easily. When I bought the second bottle of shampoo, I splurged for the conditioner and that is when I really started to see the difference about half way through.

I did not use the conditioner as instructed. You are supposed to towel dry your hair, apply and let sit for 3-5 minutes. I wrung out my hair and added it only to the ends working upwards. as a result, I felt like I wasn't getting enough so I would apply the drug store conditioner to the very ends of my hair. I should try to follow the directions and see what happens.

Washing and Conditioning Tips:
Americans tend to overdo everything and that includes using way too much shampoo and over washing their hair. You can't really blame them though, using cheap shampoo leaves residue and build up on your hair causing you to need to wash it more often and cheap conditioner is drying making the hair appear dull.  I wash my hair every 2-3 days and use a dollop the size of a nickel; a little goes a long way. I just opened my third bottle of shampoo the other day. I have only used 2 bottles in six months which equates to a little over $11 a month. BUDGET FRIENDLY!

SUGAR TIP***
only wash the roots of your hair. Apply your shampoo to the hair line and crown and work in with your finger tips. slowly work out  avoiding the ends. Secondly, only apply your conditioner to your ends and work up toward the root. Conditioner combined with natural oils can be heavy and weigh your hair down.

Prevent and Nourish Dry Skin: Tips To Keep Your Skin Glowing and Supple This Winter

Winter is here and my face is feeling dry and hands are chapped. How does a girl keep her skin hydrated without breaking the bank? It has been recommended to see a specialist or the Derm for products that will combat dry skin but what if you don't have time to go to the Derm or the money to see a specialist. Not only is the appointment costly, the products that are prescribed or recommended are an investment. Let's be clear, our skin is always an investment and cutting corners is not an option; however, there have to be products in the market that hydrate without compromising quality. Here are a few tips and options to keep your skin looking beautiful this winter without breaking the bank. The best part is they are accessible and natural.

Prevent Dry Skin:
  • Use lukewarm-warm water when washing your face and showering. Hot water will dry your skin out quicker.
  • Exfoliate weekly with a body scrub. Exfoliated skin will absorb moisturizer better than skin covered in dead skin cells.
  • Moisturize after every shower or bath.
  • Carry hand cream in your handbag and use after every hand wash.
Nourish Dry Skin:

1) Avocado mask: This is as simple as it gets. Avocado oil is non-clogging and Tie your hair back away from your face and remove all makeup form the skin and the eyes. In a small bowl, smash up an avocado
2) Make your own "Moisturizing Deep Treatment" by slathering on a thick or heavier moisturizer on your hands and feet. Wrap in saran wrap and put on a pair of gloves/socks. Allow to sit for 20-30 minutes for maximum effects.
