I chose supper vs. dinner because I grew up in the heart of the Midwest where Grandma Deli, as we say, calls dinner supper and her couch a davenport. When we were little, our whole family would gather at Grandma's house after Sunday School and have a home cooked meal and some well needed family time. We would sit quietly during the service with our growling tummies and patience dwindling as we anticipated seeing our cousins again. We would run out of the car hands waving and mouths yelling as we ran into Grandma's and wrapped our arms around her legs. How she made it to the house before us was always a mystery. With the sounds of children giggling and plates clinking, we would all squeeze around the table with empty stomachs and full hearts.
I want to bring back the tradition of Sunday Suppers with the family where we all get together and catch up on our week while preparing for the next. Sundays are perfect for this tradition because I have a beautiful Farmers Market one block away with fresh local ingredients that could inspire any self-proclaimed cook. My chef and Sommelier agreed to assist with my new project to help me provide you with recipe guidelines and wine pairings as well. Below are a list of seasonal fruits and vegetables to keep your eyes out for. See you next Sunday!
- Beets
- Peaches
- Fava Beans
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
